Believe it or not, my VIN number does not match the body style of my Pinto. There are 2 other people whom have heard of this happening. But I am wondering if mine is not the only actual known case. So I am requesting that those reading this message to please check and compare their VIN to their vehicle body style and see if there are any others that do not match like mine.
Checking your PINTO VIN number from LEFT to RIGHT:
1st number is the car year from the 1970's
The next letter is the assembly plant that made your car
The next 2 numbers are the BODY STYLE and they are as follows
10 is for the 2 DOOR SEDAN
11 is for the HATCHBACK
12 is for the WAGON
My PINTO is a 2 DOOR SEDAN, but the VIN on car and on the Title where I purchased it says 12 (WAGON)
So if anyone elses VIN does not match their vehicle body style, please reply to this message and we can see how things work out. Just curious.
Thanks for checking.
Dick
Dick,
My Pinto is a 1972 two door sedan and the VIN matches.
Dwayne
my 79sedan (turbohack) says it is a hatchback
My 73 Hatchback matches the vin
My VIN numbers on my 78 Sedan and 73 Station Wagon match the cars. However when I applied for the "build sheet" from ford, the document they sent me states that my 78 Sedan is a "Sedan Fastback".
I believe fastback refers to the shape of the back of the car...like fastback Mustangs. ;D
It does, but I've never EVER heard of a Pinto refered to as a Fastback. I think it's cool and sporty! I can rub that into the Mustang guy's faces at car shows when they say it has absolutely NO relation to a Mustang! LOL
There ya go! ;D
