I know it's out there somewhere... Does anyone have any files, links to a database, list, something that shows what rears can 'easily' swap to the Pinto? I want to make a run to the salvage yard soon and grab one. Thanx!
8in from a V6 pinto/bobcat or mavrick
Wish me luck on finding one of those!!
if you think that will be hard to find...try this one. Maverik 8 inch, it's 57 inches wide, i think the spring pearches are in the proper location and it has the bigger bearings? lots out west!
BTW, look in the for sale on this forum...Pinto1? just posted an 8 inch.

I measured mine at 56 inches(79-80?), a stock explorer is 59.75, as are some mustangs. The IRS here is 60 by my measurement.

Given late model wheels or aftermarket ones these will fit and you can get them cheap and grind off what you don't need and weld on what you do. The IRS is a 3.55 positrac unit and it needs late model wheel offsets anyway(at least 17 inch wheels). Believe it or not, Volvos after 1997 have 8.8 rears, disc brakes but I'm having trouble finding a width.
Here is a handy chart. (http://www.carnut.com/specs/rear.html)
Grumpy 8)
Thanks, G! Now to go see what's available...
has anyone installed a tbird or mk8 irs in a pinto?
Don't forget, some mustang IIs had 8" rears. That's what the 8", that my 78 will be getting soon, came from.
From the research I have done, the Mustang II 8" should pair up just fine with my 4spd transmission and stock drive-shaft without any issues!
When you find an axle, don't forget to get brake shoes and hardware, as well as the necessary gaskets to recondition it.
mustang 2 with the v8 is a direct swap onto the springs and maintain the 4 lug 108 configuration.
