Not much to say about her, because i can't say as i know very much about her :lost:
I found her sitting in a dirt parking lot on the west side of the island with some faded window chalk on the windshield that said $650. Long story short, i drover her home that afternoon :D
When i talked to the guy who was doing the selling, he told me it belongs to an older woman who bought it new on island in '76! and that
the 62k miles that show on the odometer, were the original miles and that it hadn't rolled over!
everything works on her except for the radio (which i plan to take apart and fix)
2.3L
4spd transmission
light blue interior
repainted in 2007 (by maaco :rolleye: )
any questions, i'd be more than happy to do my best to answer them!
(if anyone knows how to decode the fender tag, please let me know)

Beautiful car, Jippah! I wonder if you have the only Pinto in Hawaii...
I hope you get a lot of enjoyment out of Shelly. She looks like a keeper!
That is one crumbly steering wheel, though! lol I thought they only get that bad out here in Cali and other desert regions. :P
:welcome: Jippah
She looks great! New molded carpet, dash cap painted to match interior color and original steering wheel (If that is what you would like) and she would look nearly NEW again!
Enjoy her, and keep us updated on any progress you gain.
Also, don't be shy to ask questions, there is a plethora of information here!
Looks like quite a find! Congratulations and enjoy!
Dwayne
Thanks fellas! ... and blupinto! :)
i have a new set of front suspension bushings and front/rear shocks on order as well as some new wheels!
after that i'm going to get new front rotors and calipers, then go from there :D
and a friend of mine said he saw (what he thought was) an older light blue pinto on the northern side of the island puttin' around... but i honestly dont think theres more than 2 or 3 in driving condition :fastcar:
It's not the only Pinto in Hawaii. My 72 turbo SVO Pinto resides in Honolulu; or did 7 years ago when I sold it. It was quite a process getting it there....Joe in Morgan Hill, CA
Nice looking pinto. did ya get it for the $650? That would be one heck of a good price for a driveable pony indeed! I look forward to seeing more of this! By the way, your model, should have been in one of those cute hula skirts and such! LOL. J/K!!

I've only been here for a little over 4 years, but i haven't seen a turbo'd pony downtown... can you tell me more about it redmustang3?
and tinkerman73, i'll be sure to get some more Hawaii Oriented pictures of Shelly for ya! :D
The car was in grey primer when I sold it. The front end was all fiberglass as were the two doors which had lexan windows. The car was a certified SCCA racer and sat low. The engine was a modified 4 cylinder turbo out of a 1984 Mustang SVO; making around 225 hp. T-5 transmission with 8"(or 9" ?) Ford rear. Very, very fast. Hope you see it some day. Joe in Morgan Hill, CA
Hey Joe, one of your neighbors came by the T-Bird shop a couple of weeks ago, he told me of a ride you took him on with the SVO car...He confirmed it was Fasssst. Maybe Jippah can get a ride in it sometime. Can you say TURBO!!!!
That sounds like a very sweet ride! I've been thinking about a turbo on Shelly too... but the 5psi limited one for a naturally aspirated engine Ford made for only two years.
anyone know anything about those?
and i was looking online and found quite a few options for an all fiberglass front end and doors, but thats a long ways off.... just a distant dream like the turbo idea :rolleye:
I will definitely keep my eye out for your ride redmustangman3! i do spend quite a bit of time downtown in honolulu anyhow lol :drunk:
Hi Paul: Yes, I know who you mean. A long term baby bird lover and presently has a 57 T-bird, and a very good friend. I took him for a ride and scared the hell out of him; he still talks about it today. One of my very best Pinto highlights. Regards, Joe
Looks amazingly rust free for a car in Hawaii. Look it over well and fix any that you find quickly. Also, looking at the map below the quick reply box, there may be 2 of you from the islands. But I see from the responses that there may be more.
Cool find.
More pics of your friend please!!
