I have some "loose ends" on my car. Would like to get everything figured out and put together right.
#1. Where are these two electrical connectors supposed to go?

#2. What are supposed to go onto these four plugs?
#3. Where is this hose supposed to go?
#4. What is this box really supposed to be for? Where is the other end supposed to go for the black aluminum flex hose?
#5. Is anything supposed to go on here?
#6. Was power steering a option? The motor in the car has a single belt. Alternator is single belt. The spare motor has two belts. Same as the alternator. Also has a power sterring pump on it? Also, would the spare motor alternator work anyways in case I need a back up?

#1 the 2 wire connector goes to the windshield washer reservoir, the single wire goes to a condensor that bolts down with the voltage regulator
#2 need a vaccum diagram
#3 might be the washer res feed line to the windshield washer
#4flex goes to the aircleaner
#5 not sure but might be vaccum port for crank case vent
#6 if itll fit it should work...
HMMM> Windshield washer fluid? Thats a good one. Being around autos most of my life, one woulda thunk I would catch that one! There is no windhsield washer fluid reserve on the car!! :( Add that to the list of things needed! Would zoop driving it in the snow now wouldnt it! LOL.
As for #4. I see a soft plug in the front of the air cleaner housing. Am I correct in assuming that the flex hose would go into there? I presume it is not needed, but is a way to help run the vacuum system?
Where would the crank case vent be located at?
Thanks. This should help out some. I am sure the vacuum diagram is around here first. So I will try to search for it. If any one knows where it is and could offer that to me. I would appreciate it. Thanks.
A few years back I posted the vacuum line routing from my dads all original 79 wagon. This may help answer some of your vacuum line routing questions. Here is the link http://www.fordpinto.com/general-help/vacuum-connections-for-a-79-4cyl/msg52925/#msg52925 (http://www.fordpinto.com/general-help/vacuum-connections-for-a-79-4cyl/msg52925/#msg52925)
Pinturbo75 already answered most, but I can help with a couple.
#2 - The left vacuum switch is for your smog pump valve. The bottom connection should be connected to the vacuum size and the top should be vented.
#3 - It does appear to be for the washer bottle as Pinturbo 75 stated, but I can't really tell without seeing where it leads to. It could be a vacuum hose if it is already connected to something.
#4 - That box is your charcoal canister. The canister looks like the one on my 78 Sedan, my 73 has a round one with the metal flex hose like yours. Which, as Pinturbo75 stated, goes to the air cleaner. On my 78, there are three hoses with a three port vacuum switch on the canister itself. One hose is vacuum, one returns to the intake at a two port vacuum switch, and the third being the main canister line which connects to the port on the carburetor that you have pictured in #5.
#5 - On my 78 Sedan's carburetor, this line goes to my charcoal canister's three port vacuum switch, but that switch also leads back to a two port vacuum switch on the end of the intake manifold under the carburetor (seems to be part of the manifolds "Pre-heater" system).
#6 - Power steering WAS an option, and only power steering cars had the dual belt pulley on the alternators. If the alternator still works, go ahead of and use it! The only difference that may be present depends on if the power steering motor had air conditioning. If it did, then it is a higher amp alternator than a non-AC motor.
TIGGER's pictures of the vacuum system helped me configure my 78's vacuum system after two years of guess work and never really trusting my gut. I highly recommend checking it out.
Thanks guys. The pics in that thread are small and when I click on them, they will not enlarge. I get a error report? IS there any way to get copies of them emailed to me? I know thats a lot to ask for. But I did notice that you had stated that you had saved them in a different format. I think this would help me out emensly!! As for the spare motor, no AC. Power steering could be a decent option to add on at some point. But I am sure that there would be just a few things involved with it! LOL. Right now I want to get her running faithfully the way she is supposed to. Then as money and weather provide, start on her appearance some.
Alright, I have found a shop repair manual for $5 for this as well as a electrical and vacuum trouble manual for this car for $5. So I have purchased them. If any one wishes that I do some scan posts of any part of these after I get them. Let me know and I would be most happy too. Thank you.
I forgot about that powerpoint file. I will have to see if I can find it as it was on my old work laptop which I no longer have anymore. Let me see if I can dig it up.
That would be cool if you could. I tried to save the pictures and enlarge them. But I just got a big mottled blob. LOL. But.... if you cant, might not be a big deal. I ordered a electricla and vacuum book for the car. Thanks.
