did lots of searching for subframe connectors, didn't like any of the concepts because of cutting up the floor pan. so here is mine. using 1 1/2 x 1 (or 1 1/2) x 0.083 wall retangular tubing between the rear spring pearch and the crossmember around the seat location. it will be run flush to this rocker panel flange, and will be weld at many point to the flange. custom plate will be made to connected the tube to the spring pearch. up front, custom plates to fit to the crossmember and the tube. these will be welded in place. may add a tube at a 45 degree angle from the front crossmember tube to the front rail. the
design sketches on http://s1139.photobucket.com/albums/n547/donchez22/Turbo%20Pinto%20overhaul/?action=view¤t=subframedesign.jpg (http://s1139.photobucket.com/albums/n547/donchez22/Turbo%20Pinto%20overhaul/?action=view¤t=subframedesign.jpg) a note on the sketch...the pictures show 1 1/2 sq. tubing and 1" sq tubing inside of the 1 1/2 tubing.
The car now has a roll bar that I'm going make it at lease a 4 point, but probably make it a 6 point.
So,what do you guys think? :)
No comments on this subframe connection idea?
sorry, I missed this one when I did my searching. I am cutting the floor, but like some of your ideas as well. Can you post pictures of yours when you are done?
plan to post pictures....will be starting this mod by next week. BTW...I'll be using 1.5" sq. tubing.
Cool, I will be doing the same here with mine. I will be using 1.5x2.5x1/8 (11 ga) and cutting the floor at the same time. Good Luck
your idea got me thinking more and I will most likely use some scrap tube I have to weld onto my bolt plates for the roll bar while I do the subframe connector. This should help keep things in line along with only supporting the car by the suspension.
I will be installing a 6 point also. I'm planning on a Competition Engineering 6 point kit. it will be bolted to the subframe like you. While you subframing it don't forget to re-enforce the spring perch area if your going to be running any HP and want it to hook up. Bill

no problem there, plan on welding it completely in place followed by a tab off the subframe to that location. It helps that the main hoop sits directly above the perch to assist in the reinforcement.
Here is my plan on what to do. about the only thing I do not show is where the seats mount and how they will tie in.
