Title: 1977 Ford Pinto - Bulb Socket - Parking/Turnsignal
Post by: Shane198three on January 14, 2011, 03:39:22 PM
After messing with it for awhile, I finally figured it out...

Right side (passenger) turn signal not working.

No power to it what-so-ever.

So I have looked online at the parts stores and found 2 Bulb sockets.

AutoZone - $34.99
http://www.autozone.com/autozone/accessories/Dorman-Conduct-Tite-Ford-3-wire-turn-signal-and-parking-lighting-socket/_/N-25tu?counter=1&filterByKeyWord=Turn+Signal&fromString=search&itemIdentifier=438872_0_0_

O'Reillys - $19.99
http://www.oreillyauto.com/site/c/detail/BOR0/PT140.oap?keyword=turn+signal&pt=03583&ppt=C0243

Now what I don't get is, why there would be a $15.00 difference in the 2, they are exactly the same...

So, I am going over to my parents house to see if there is a socket laying around somewhere, it is simple wiring, and don't see why I wouldn't be able to just fix the wiring. But I can't get the wires to come out, and the housing seems to be glued, I will break it if I have to just to figure out how to fix it!

Your best bet is to get another socket, since these have the same problem after a while. On my 77 I have the same problem on my driver side front parkingl light. Very annoying, but what can ya do. If you check ebay sometimes they have stuff like that & it would probably be cheaper than 19.99

If you are able to fix yours tell us how, so we can do the same thing lol.

Dorman socket Part Number: 85823

You are looking for a 3-wire ford socket the bulb size is an 1157.

Its a cheap replacement, though it will work just fine, it does not have the OEM look, but it will work just peachy. I hope this helps.

oh and the kicker, its a $5.99 fix! Woot for cheap parts!!!

Awesome! Great info on the socket link. Beats paying extra money for something that would work the same,

I was just on ebay & I found out a socket from a Ford Econoline is the same socket. It was for a 1985, but models similar to 1985 should work as well.

I hope this works for you, only reason why I got so worried about it, is that I am constantly getting pulled over when I go out at night. They just love to look at my pinto...

Pulled over: No front license plate, not using turn signal, rear license plate not lit up bright enough/not reflective, not coming to a complete stop.

Lets see, no I do not have the front license plate, I bought my little pinto without it in 2002.
I ALWAYS use my turn signal, doesn't necessarily mean that it lights up!
Rear license plate is non-reflective, damn, its 30+ years old! As for the light, it was a little dirty, so I took the housing apart and cleaned it up!
Not coming to a complete stop? B.S. I always come to a complete stop! I am not in any rush what so ever!

I think they just like to pull me over so they can look at my Pinto!

P.S. Cops really dislike it when you tell them to stop pulling you over just to look at your classic car!

it might, the one I posted up is 1971-1983 so I think the socket might be slightly different. Good Luck though
