Title: Starting on 3 Pinto winter projects
Post by: beegle55 on January 04, 2011, 05:13:11 PM
Well its finally getting to be that time... the winter projects are kicking it. I'm tearing into all three at once in what I can afford. I've got a lot of extra "stuff" (not junk until it leaves my garages  :cheesy_p: ) to sell and that will hopefully be most of the funding. My '79 daily driver is priority 1, followed by sprucing up the drag car back to racing and show quality in hope for the big 40th.

The white '76 is currently running in last needing the most work and being the rarest of the three...I'm letting it gain patina in my basement garage until I have the funding and time to fully go over it.

So far the list is for my '79 Sedan:
-Address various small leaks and broke down leafs, as well as installing air shocks in the rear and going over the bushings.
-Fully rebuilt and tuned 2.3L has approx 2,000 mi on the rebuild and is purring like a kitten after a fresh winter tuneup, but it needs a good under hood detail.
-Possibly replace the 160,000 mi original 4 spd with lower mileage unit (not high priority as it works good...its just a tad sloppy.)
-Already has new battery, clutch, brake rebuilds, exhaust and muffler, repainted grill and bezels.
-Need to go over the interior good. Install dynomat and touch up the paint work on the inside as well as inspect floor pans under the carpet and install hidden sound system
-NEW WEATHERSTRIPPING is near the top but also expensive-ish
-Address newly surfacing rust issues  gotta love WV and our salty, wet weather.

RACECAR NEEDS:
-New belts to pass tech
-Engine and trans need to be pulled...possible trans rebuilt. Engine has been semi-refreshed and should run good with a rebuilt rebuilt finicky. BUT to the point there is some unsettling rusting starting under hood and it needs detailed in a bad way.
-I'm putting new carpet in the car and making it look more like a pro-street car instead of a pure dragger. Got to fix the broken headlight switch that has been that way since I re-aqquired the car. I've already pulled most of the dash components and want to get the speedo safely out. It's original to the car which only has 1,800 miles on the street.
-Do all of this carefully to preserve the mint headliner and dash pad.
-New driver side seat cover.

SORRY FOR THE LENGTH OF THE POST! Lol I've been away from my cars for a while and am now immersed...once again...hehehe. Pictures will follow shortly!
