Title: 2.3 turbo throttle cable
Post by: yogetthephone on January 02, 2011, 08:12:01 PM
Doing my first engine swap and I have a few newbie questions. I swapped a 2.3 turbo from a t-bird into my 79 pinto and have realized the throttle cable is much too short. What should I do? Is it maybe possible to just cut the wire and splice in a longer line? Also there is a lever type thing that comes up from the automatic trans and connected to the throttle bracket of the original engine. What is this and How can I hook it up if it is needed? Thank you

For the throttle cable if you can get one out of a 83-88 turbocoupe it will bolt perfectly in place in the pinto and be the perfect length. I used the one out of my 88 turbocoupe for my swap into my bobcat.

As for that linkage im just gunna guess but i think your talking aobut the kick down linkage its what makes the trans down shift on its own when you stomp the throttle if you dont care you have to manually down shift leave it unhooked. Not real sure how to modify the linkage to work on a 2.3t since it would have to be hooked to the thorottle linkage somehow. I swapped mine to a T5 5speed just so i wouldnt have to deal with auto woes since i dont wanna dump cash into a built c4 ATM.
