I'm looking at replacing the blower motor in the 73 Station Wagon. The problem being, today I had the heat on and the blower just shut off out of no where while driving. Occasionally it will turn back on, but it is intermittent. When it DOES come on, it's loud as heck and vibrates everything under the dash, making it sound like a leaf blower idling!
Now my question is...Are the blower motors for factory AC cars the same as the ones for non-AC cars? My 73 Wagon has factory installed A/C, however I'm not sure if it is the same as a non-AC car.
Dave:
Unfotunately, they are not the same, because the construction/orientation of the factory A/C-heater box differs from that of the heater box alone (requiring different sizes of motors). If you go out to RockAuto.com, you will see different types of appropriate motors listed. Good luck!
Chris
Thank you Chris!
Another question regarding the motors....
The 76 squire runabout at the local junk yard has factory A/C. Would that motor be the same as my 73 station wagon's factory A/C one?
Dave:
I guess my question would be - how similar are the firewalls of the '73 wagon and '76 runabout (I do not know this). Having heard much talk about the similarity of body styles of the '76 and up body styles (especially when trying to fit a V8 motor - since the tranny tunnels differ), I do not know if the heater/AC box setups would be different.
The only other option would be to check Ford part number manuals. Sorry, I know the answer is vague, but that's the best I could do.
Chris
Dave, 72 - 76 A/C motors are the same. Fred :)
