Title: Pinto 302 Header question
Post by: ThreeFingerPete on December 13, 2010, 11:17:40 AM
I'm trying to find  headers for a 302 with 1 3/4" primaries.  I've seen Hooker's 1 5/8 super comps, but those aren't quite going to cut it.  Does anyone know of any custom header manufacturers that have built headers like these?

never seen any that size. you must be building a killer 302!! custom made might be you're only option, pricey though.

Yea sorry man for performance your best option is the hooker swap headers. Anything bigger is going to be custom and upwards of $1500

Love to hear the story behind needing 1 3/4 primarys! Are we talking a 434w !!!????

I also would like to know the need for a 1 3/4" primary. Anything less than a "full tilt" 302 or a real hot, stroked small block doesn't need anything larger than a 1 5/8 primary. I ran Super Stock small block Fords with Joe Hartley ( holding both ends of the SS/M )  NHRA and IHRA records for many years and have actually seen a 1 3/4" header slow the car down. At most, you may want to consider a 1 3/4" stepped header unless you're considering running Comp Eliminator. We never ran off the shelf headers, but anything other than an off the shelf header is going to cost in the range from $ 900.00 to $ 1,500.00. Good luck on your project.

Here is where you need to go! http://www.americanracingheaders.com (http://www.americanracingheaders.com) They built me a custom set of headers that did not require cutting out the fender wells or going under the cross member.  They will cost you a very pretty penny though, mine were $2,700. You can see pictures of my car in the photo gallery. They make the headers for the new Cobra Jet Mustang and do really nice work on everything from dragsters to show cars.  When I picked up my car they just finished putting headers on a Mazda Miata with a Corvette ZR1 engine in it.

i use the hooker 15/8 in my car . it makes just over 640 hp on motor and just under 800 hp on the plate system. if your useing a 20 deg inline cly head more then likely it will have a 1.54 or 1.600 size ex vavle. 15/8 = 1.625 the header won't be your limiting factor. use the hookers and spend the saved $$ on a custom cam
