Title: need your input
Post by: sauerflash on December 11, 2010, 05:53:44 PM
I am a fabricator in the racing industry.  After careful consideration, I have decided to do a complete ground up restoration of a 1976 runabout.  My dad had a 72 pinto when i was a kid.  The car I have recovered has the colonge v6 with the automatic trans.  I need you guys' input on whether to redo the v6, or put the 4 cylinder with the 4 speed like my dad had.  This is a real ground up, going to media blaster in two week!  Once I start, I don't stop till I'm done!!  Opinions on the engine choice please!!

Me too... three...four! I like original/ stock best. It will be your car do to with what you want but in my humble opinion you'll get more attention keeping your Pinto or Bobcat stock, at least that's my exerience. Lots of people at, say, car shows remember ones that came from the factory better than modified after-market outfitted ones. Whatever you choose to do I wish you good luck.  But... (in hushed voice) keep it original, even if it has to be restored.  ;)

Do what you'll be happy with. If you're going ground up, the only telltale will be the VIN. Original or original appearing is about the same to me. My $0.02. JT

Keep it original. At somepoint i think the CW panels on mine might come off and go back to the windows if everything can be reinstalled otherwise she stays a CW. but I long for how she was when my dad bought the car back in 86

I'm with the majority here, keep it original!

However, I must say, if I were to ever loose my 78 Sedan (my first car and Pinto), and I were to find a v6 car, I would change it to a 4cyl 2.3l like my 78 has now, just for nostalgic reasons and personal taste.

cool, thanks guys.  I think I will keep it original.  Well, I plan to have it solid white.  I am looking for a grill and front park lights if anyone knows where to find them.  Hope to get it media blasted in the next couple weeks!!
