Title: windshield trim '73
Post by: Stuwil on November 01, 2010, 09:48:36 AM
Can somebody tell me the trick for removing the trim around the windshield?. I don't want to ruin it and that's just where I'm headed. Experience tells me that inexperience is expensive
Thanks
Stu

There are small clips that need to be pulled towards the windshield to release. You can use a hook tool, or there are specialty tools for this task.

I use one like the one to the far left of this photo:

Be careful not to pull up on the trim to much, it doesn't take much to bend or warp the bright work on these cars.

I have a trim removal tool to pull the clips to make it easier.  Take the sides off first.  There are two screws, one on each side at the low end of the pilar post near the fender, that hold the ends of the lower moldings.  Remove them, then use the trim tool to pop the clips.  If you do not remove the screws you may end up bending the moldings. Then you can remove the top trim.  It takes a little getting use to the tool to pull the moldings quickly.  Just take your time.
