I'd very much appreciate some advice. I live in northern Iowa where the temp gets down to 20 below and we get tons of snow in the winter. My question is how I should store my Pinto for the winter. It will be in a shed, but the shed does not have heat. I have a nice car cover from JC Whitney and I'll take out the battery, but what else should I do to "winterize" the car for storage? With my classic motorcycles I drain the carbs and do all sorts of other stuff, but my Pinto is my first car that I'll need to store and I don't know what to do. What do y'all recommend I do? Thanks for the help. Jeff
Definitely fill the gas tank and add some fuel stabilizer. Pintos seem to have a tough time with tank corrosion.
Here's how I put my two away for the season....
1) fill and stabilize the gas tank
2) disconnect and remove the battery
3) put mothballs/drier sheets in the car...mice hate that!
4) place a sheet of heavy duty plastic under the car...
keeps moisture from the floor away from the bottom
the car
5) get the car up on jack stands...flat spots on the tires,
weight off the suspension
6) wash and wax, detail the car before the cover goes on
7) secure the car cover tightly
8) pray for a short winter!
Good luck!
72Pair and Pinto1600 -- Thanks so much for the advice! I can't tell you how much I appreciate it! I got my pinto this past summer -- with 12,000 original miles on it -- and I want to keep it in as good a condition as I can. I love this little car. I'll take all your suggestions, and I'll use your suggestions to help me get it through the winter -- I hope! Thanks again! Jeff
