Title: Pinto at junk yard
Post by: rctinker on October 07, 2010, 07:59:34 PM
So I went to a local area junk yard today to check if they had any parts for my 76 Mustang II coupe, not much there for the MII.....but a did find a 77 to 79? Pinto hatchback 2.3, 4 speed that had a engine fire. Now what is this car? It had the steering wheel, dash gauge pod, and speedo with tach like what the crusin wagons had, plus airconditioning. Is it a sport package? Rallye? Didnt have any graphics on the outside.....so idk. The guy said he would figure out a price for me by tomorrow. Its not a crusin wagon, but it would work. Any ideas guys?
Thanks, Tink

Sounds like a Ralley package to me. My guess is 79/80?

Dont think it is 79/80, it doesnt have the square front end.

I got some parts off an ESS. Perhaps it was that model.  Not sure what it means. It had the gauge pod, unfortunately disassembled on the floor.  :(

What does the grille look like Tink? Get the VIN too... it might shed a light on its origins. Is this car salvageable... is that why you're thinking about buying it? :D

It looks like r4pinto's pinto, same color, just not a trunk model.

Yes thinking of gettin it if the price is right, drivers side floor pan is pretty much toast, had a fire in the engine compartment, not too bad. But will need a complete engine bay wiring harness. Also found a crusin wagon for cheep, but it is 9hrs away, so dont know if that will work out.

That would make it a 1977 or '78 - the only two years that looked like that!

As near as I can tell, the tach/sport gauges were an option but standard on the crusing wagons and rallye's.  I had a 79 bobcat that had the factory tach.

ESS - Europeon Sport Sedan

It had the ralley package as well. Phil made a good point, I totally forgot that my 77/78 sales brochure has the ESS package in it.
