Title: Heater core hoses behind firewall needed?
Post by: Pinto5.0 on October 06, 2010, 06:57:42 PM
I decided to pull the heater & replace the core while the engine was out. I can't find the molded hoses to replace the 30 year old stockers so what do I use? I want something that will last another 30 years so generic hose is out. I'm thinking of getting the industrial strength hose from Kenworth that is on my semi & lasts for a million miles.

Who ran into this issue & what did you use? I don't want to pull the core again just for a hose leak in a few years.

I used blue silicone bulk hose, should be able to get it at your local Ford dealer if you can't find it at the parts store. We stock it because that is what comes on police cruisers.  :)

Yup, the blue silicone stuff is the best going for hoses.

Make sure you use quality hose clamps...not the cheap ones.

I was planning to use the stainless full circle clamps that are similar to fuel injection clamps. I love em on fuel lines.

Looks like silicone is the ticket then. I have a truck parts supplier down the street & I casn get the Gates silicone hose that has the bonded cloth wrap. Im going to put the fake braided cover on it for dress up since it's green.....YUCK!!

I used two molded heater hoses that closely matched the O.E.M , a little trimming but it worked. I am not sure what the blue silicone bulk hose costs , but the molded hoses ran me $34.00
