Title: soda blasting
Post by: dholvrsn on September 29, 2010, 12:38:30 PM
Does a soda blaster get out the hard core pitted rust that a wire brush wheel won't? Or do I need a more heavy duty abrasive?

It has been my experiance soda blasting won't get the rust. You will need glass beads or sand.

Soda blasting is used primarily as a surface conditioner, roughing up/removing only the extrenal coating (paint) to prep for reprimering and repaint. Rust requires a heavy mechanical abrasive (sandblasting) and/or chemical intervention (any number of phosphoric acid and/or other neutralizers/converters) available.

Soda blasting is for paint only. It wont even remove Bondo.
