Title: Cloning
Post by: heepfan on September 27, 2010, 12:39:01 AM
Ok. I have been Pinto fan for years. I allways wanted to have a 77 or 78 cruise wagon. Hard to find localy. I have a chance to get a 79 thats to rotted to work with but it seems all the components are there to make a clone. Side panels, steering wheel, guages, rear louvers, And interior trim. If I buy this as a parts car, what issues will I have to make a clone. Doner is a 4 cyl 4 speed but I want to find a V6 auto to make the clone. I can get this 79 doner for 300.00

With exception of drilling out a few spot welds for the brackets that help hold the interior side panels in, the swap is pretty much a bolt in change.  Be careful when removing the panels from your parts car.  Don't press on them too hard or they will kink.  $300 sounds like a good deal if all the crusing wagon specific parts are in great shape not to mention the rear louvers.  I have seen them go for $200-$300 alone.
