Was at the PID reunion today and this Pinto wagon rolled in nice car and a great look with the B pillar deleted. It is V8 powered tubbed/backhalf with NASCAR style flat exhaust..

Wow that looks pretty cool.
The color is great but I like the separate quarter windows. To me (I don't mean to be offensive here) it looks Vega-esque like that. Now for the duh question: what do folks mean by tubbed?
Tubbed: Refers to the physical changes that are required on a car to accomodate the non-standard circumferences and widths of rear tires (slicks) that are often used under racing vehicles. Named for the sheet metal housings, "tubs" are fabricated into the car chassis to surround the tires (look in the rear of the wagon and note the very large "humps" that were added to allow for the large wheels).
Chris
Thank you Chris. I've been wondering what people meant by that word. This thread gave me the opportunity to finally ask! ;D
By P.I.D. are you refering to the Drag Strip that was located near Bridgeville PA ?
If you are, can you please tell me where I may get info on any future reunions?

I'd like to do that to my wagon...that gives the car an entirely different look. The real question is..was that pillar structural or not??

Thank You for all of those links. I spent most of the AM running down
memory lane - but in the end I still didn't win many races !
I hope to make the next reunion.
"HUNKY" John was who I had all my machine work done by when he
worked at Gate's. He didn't care if it was a Ford eng. he still did a 100%
job.

I know John well I had a hand in building the body for John's first rear engine Hemi dragster around 1969 at his house by county airport. Attended a few Racers parties at Gates speed shop Connie Kalitta was always at Gates with his Flopper.
After Lucy died John moved out west with his son Steve Matusek he owns Aeromotive they still have John's Super Gas Maverick.
I could tell a lot of stories from the U.S.Nationals ( INDY) when we ran in Comp in 1970s some wild times!
I started going to PID in 1965 with Joe Bozic first with the 55 Gasser then the Henry I (Injected 427 ford), Front ( injected 454 Ford) engine Dragster,Rear engine dragster. I know most of the guy's the ran in Comp at PID.
Ted Wolf is a ( talked to Ted 2 days ago ) good friend drove AA/FD for Jim & Allison Lee then on to his own AA/FD and was actually faster than Big Daddy! Ted found his first dragster in a garage in Wilkinsburg a few months ago what's the odds of that find?

John's car & ours we moved up to a Cobra jet Torino push car!(http://inlinethumb38.webshots.com/43237/2003106960038663969S600x600Q85.jpg)
Well there isn't much chance of finding anything 'good' in Wilkinsburg
these days ! :( Was he able to get the 'car' back for himself ?
Actually a friend & myself rented a 2 car garage in W-burg when we both
ran at "Keystone', can't remember the st. name but it was near a rad. shop
in an alley.
Sure would love to have that Comet push car ! :P
I wouldn't expect "JOHN M." to remember me since I was just a gear head
that run what he brung! However if you should ever be in touch with him
Please Tell Him I said Thanks for not being a B&R chevy only guy & that
everything he did for my 289 was terrific.
PS thinking back the was a McCurey (spell check) near our alley also.
Thanks again for the links, Rich
