Title: Pinto on Jeopardy!
Post by: dga57 on September 15, 2010, 07:00:18 PM
Guess what???  Ford Pinto was the question to a Jeopardy answer on today's show.  I got so excited when the photo popped up, I have to admit I didn't quite catch the clue but it was something along the lines of the first American vehicle in the subcompact category.  Anyway, the contestant got it right (after all, most people do recognize a Pinto when they see one).  Just thought I'd share.

So the question was what was the first American sub-compact??

What about the Nash Metropolitain in the late 50's?? They were smaller than a Pinto.

While the Nash Metropolitan was marketed as an American car, it was actually built in England.  As I mentioned earlier, in my excitement at the sudden and unexpected image of a 1971 Pinto on my TV screen, I failed to catch the exact wording of the question.

Now correct me if I'm wrong, but wasn't the Vega considered a subcompact? Didn't it debut a day before the Pinto?

Actually Becky, I think you're correct on that... as I said, I'm not sure of the exact wording of the question but whatever it was, Ford Pinto was the answer.  The image of the Ford Pinto overwhelmed me to the point that I honestly sort of missed hearing the question :embarassed:

Seeing a Pinto anywhere- especially on the road- overwhelms me! But then again it always did! (Did I ever mention I've loved the Ford Pinto ever since I was a child?)  ;D

Not bragging, but whoever would have expected a modern TV to be displaying the image of a 1971 Ford Pinto on a nationally syndicated television show?  And it did look pretty darned impressive!

The category was "1970".

The answer was something to the effect of "The Chevrolet Vega and this car went on sale in 1970."

:amazed:
