Title: Hood prop rod conversion
Post by: 289Wagon on September 12, 2010, 09:42:24 AM
Has anyone replaced their hood prop rod with gas struts ?
If so would you please tell me what you used or did you get a kit from
Red line tuning etc.
Any help will be appreciated.

I have with mine. I used parts from a few different cars. If I recall correctly (I have it written down somewhere), I pulled the 20" struts off of a 90's Mercury Cougar, the bottom stud mounts from a 90's Ford Taurus, and the top stud mounts from a Pontiac Gran Prix, early 90's model.

There is a good write up of a gas strut conversion kit from a company in the Pinto Times magazine, in the first issue. I can't remember who exactly released the kit, but I'm pretty sure it was Redline Tuning.

Here is my post in my project thread about my conversion:

I was getting tired of the plastic clips/bushing wearing out and breaking so I converted. I do still have all the original parts though.
