I have a shaved & ported head that I want to put on my 2300 when I pull the turbo off. It's got a big Esslinger cam & all the supporting parts including large valves to run on a mini-stock. I have never dug into a 2300 & have no clue how to tell if I have solid or hydraulic lifters in the '79 engine & no idea how to adjust them. I assume what is called a lifter is the adjuster that the follower rides on but I'm clueless. Also what is a cam seal?? I was told it's the only thing the head needs but again I have no clue what it is.
You should be able to tell the difference in the 2 lifters just by looking at them one will be a solid sleeve with a screw in stud and the other will be 2 piece and have oil holes in the side and a groove to keep them pumped up. As for adjustability of the lifters im pretty sure only solids can be adjusted other then shimming them.
An as for cam seal it goes in the front tower around the cam to keep oil from leaking out of the block.

So since the lifters on the race head have adjusters & locknuts they are solid lifters. I google imaged em & that helped.

Thats the seal behind the gear then? Thats what I thought but I didnt want to forget anything.
Anyone know the lash settings for Esslinger cams?
yup cam seals behind the gear.
That's the one. My cousin forgot to install it on my motor when he rebuilt it and we took it for the first drive ending with an engine compartment COVERED and I mean COVERED in oil! lol

Thats exactly what I want to avoid. I just cant find the seal listed in the Fel-Pro gasket set. I hope it's in there.
Heres the part number for the felpro on and a picture its only 7.99 at my local part store.
