Title: Why a big difference in timing degrees between a '75 and a '76/77 2,4 motor?
Post by: fastfred on August 22, 2010, 04:46:59 PM
Just found out that my pinto powered car has  a 1976 or 77 motor.

On checking the info I found that a 1975 2.3 is timed at 6 degrees btdc @550 rpm and a 1976/7 is timed at 20 degrees btdc @ 550/700 rpm 76/77

Does anyone know why there is a  large difference?

Thanks in advance.

Fred

The difference is due to emissions changes for the various years.

Sounds like the difference between manual transmission and auto transmission to me.  Auto transmissions timing spec is like 20 and manual trans, for mine atleast, is 6 or 8 i cant remember for sure.
