Title: 77 sedan running rich... remanufactured 5200 holley on car
Post by: r4pinto on August 19, 2010, 01:34:40 PM
My 77 Pinto is running rich. I noticed when I was revving the engine she was blowing out black smoke & the exhaust smells rich. I bought the carb off ebay last year & it was labeled as being for a 1976 Pinto with 2.3. The carb was still wrapped in the original box for the rebuilt carb when I got it.

What can be going on & how do I fix this? I think that could be causing my problem, since it might be flooding out the engine somewhat.

Maybe a dumb question, but is the choke opening up?

Not a dumb question at all... Yup, the choke is opening up. I recently had a problem with the choke where it wouldn't close at all, but the car still smelled very rich. The bumper is actually turning black where the exhaust gasses are hitting it.

You might want to check the float setting. It's possible you may have an issue with that or the needle and seat.

Hmmm... I will have to look at that.
