Title: c4 shifter ?
Post by: STREETREBEL on August 19, 2010, 09:18:52 AM
I'm not happy with the aftermarket shifter in my car.
Which factory C4 shifter will fit with no console?
I still want it to look good and not stick way up.
Thanks.........

Thanks Fred.
If I don't find one at the swap meet I'll take it.
Does it need anything else to hook it up?

If you have an aftermarket shifter with a cable , youll need to find the shifter linkage rod that goes from the shifter to the trans for the stock style shifter. Then youll also need to verify that the C4 "bellcrank" is the correct one for the pinto shifter. I couldnt tell you what it looks like right now.

If and when you buy the housing, youll most likely need new bushings and a new rubber seal. I picked up mine through an ebay seller. The seal is the same as the mustang II and the bushings you can get from many different sources. I bought mine from Kragen in the help section. There are also many different ebay auctions from time to time selling NOS shifter "arms". The actual shifter handle is rather rare for the pinto though. Vintage mustangs handles are all over the place like dirt, but reportedly they dont fit the same as the pinto handle.

Also depending on the model shifter you have, it may have its own neutral start saftey switch. You may or may not have to hook up your old one back to original again. Unless you just have it bypassed.
Good luck,
