Does anyone know if axles from a 67 mustang with a 8 inch will fit my 77C/W also with a 8 inch. I don't know if the axles will be to long? The mustang has 5 lug axles and I'd like to convert. Better selection of rims that way. Thanks guys. Tim
What I would do (and will) is:
Pull the 4-lug axles. Heavily coat the splines with axle grease. Carefully reinstall the axles, seat them, then remove them again. This should show you how far the splines fit into the spider gears.
Compare to the splined portion of the 5-lug axles. If they have enough splined area to fit, trim them to the correct length taken from the 4-lugs. Bevel the edges and install.
Your mileage may vary.
Mike
i have a set of 5-lug axles for the 8" rear that will fit your car, with no modifacations needed, slip right in and go! if interesed let me know. my e-mail is pintoman1@verizon.net

hey man if either of them is not interested PM me price and shipping info. I dont want to snake from someone else that needs so If they dont want them I do Just need a cost and shipping total. Next year at tax time i plan on a LSD for the 8in I have and a 5 lug conversion in the back. ill get the 5 lug front later Id like to have the axles on standby so i can just rebuild it all at once when i get the parts =) thanks

When you do the front, get the rotors and bearing from Speedway motors. I did and it was the easiest job I did on the Pinto. Less than an hour for both sides!!
 i sent pm's i hope?

thanks Robert. I was planning on it =) I saw those a while back, after i get them I just have to get the wheel and tire combo lol. I did manage to find in the local yards here, a 1976-78 Mustang II with the V6 and the elusive 4 spd transmission. 8 inch rear with posse rear, according to the tag its a posse. so im hoping when i go back i can get it. =) Also found a 1976 pinto runabout, body is relatively good condition, unsure of engine atm as i did not have time to open the hood (they were closing) interior didnt look too bad will go back and take pics this coming Saturday. depending on how things go i might leave with the grill to post on here for sale. (near mint cond.)
