Well today after listing my Pinto for sale on this site and this site only, a young woman and her mother came to look at my 72 4-speed loyal companion today. It was weird and surreal to be actually discussing selling the little car that I have had so much fun with over the last 7 or so years. The only thing that put me at ease is the car is going to a young (15 or 16) woman who even after being told (by me) that it's a 38 year old car and will need looking after seemed exited that it is a PINTO! even with faded paint and no AC and after a ride in it in 94 degree Fresno heat she and her mom seemed to like it. The car for some reason decided after years of trouble free running to blow up its radiator the morning I took it to wash and clean it for its showing. So with a fairly large leak I took them for a spin around the hood and they still liked it. She said her uncle is a mechanic at a dealership nearby and will fix it up for her, and as I said keep an eye on it. I have no interest in selling it to someone who will abuse it or in screwing someone out of their hard earned money on an old car so I made sure she and her mom understood that it had worked almost flawlessly for me for 7 years with only a Pertronix added and some more timing. But the little car is still 38 and will need some love and work to stay healthy. I honestly hope if she buys it it works out for her. She seems to be the kind of person who I want to sell my Pinto to. Yet I am still depressed right now even thinking about giving it up :(

I wish it was me adopting her, but so long as she's going to a good home. I'm sorry you wany (or need) to part with your trusty '72. I think her blowing the radiator during the test drive was the car telling you something... :o
Well it looks like this one fell through. The young woman and her mom and even the step dad were into it. But from what I understand her father found out and exclaimed "A PINTO?!" and said no way. The mother actually called me to say her daughter was very upset about her dad forbidding here from buying it. She said they will work on him and they apologized. Apologies were not necessary since my dad did the same thing to me when I was a 17 year old... Only difference was it was a 70 BOSS 302.
The day before when they looked at it they were only interested in the car and not the other motor or 8" rear I have for it. So I reduced the price to $1000 for just the car. I just want it to go to someone who will take care of it... So it's still here sitting on 4 almost new tires and leaking a little water waiting for a new home :)
Oh and just for the record. I'm not leaving the Pinto community. I will be buying another one soon :)
Hey man sorry that you have to part with it. And sorry that the deal fell through! Sigh, bet your having mixed emotions right now.
On another note, i have 2 daughters. I hope my girls are "fighting" over my 71 when its time for them to want to drive. SO ill be like " ok why dont we get you a Pinto that you can drive everyday?" Then ill have an excuse to build another one! Trouble is that thats over 9 years away. The reality is most likely, thell be like " what me drive that??? .Come on dad!! "

I truly hope your daughters will love your Pinto. My son is 17 and has steadfastly refused to even test for his learner's permit out of fear that I'll "make" him drive the Pinto! He says he'd rather walk!

I know the feeling about the Pinto going away. I have been working on mine for years and the thought of it not being around is really strange. I wouldn't even consider it if it wasn't going to my grand daughter who understands the car and what it is and still loves it
But like yours it is getting some revenge as there always seems to be just one more thing I want to do to it before she gets it.......
