Title: Door Alignment
Post by: MacGyverPimpo on February 27, 2005, 10:40:14 AM
Hey Everyone,
My passenger door i believe is out of alignment, it has to come up a slight bit and be slammed hard to close tight.  As for both doors, there is no weather stripping or anything, i don't know if there was stock or not, but there is a very tiny tiny gap that i can see light through on the top of the door where it should be sealing.  Would weatherstip solve my problem? and how do i align my passenger door so it doesn't need to close so hard? thanks everyone!

Have you checked to see if the bolts are tight on the hinges? My pinto had the same problem and I was getting ready to change the hinges when I realized the bolts were loose. I tightened them up and the door fits great. The hinge pins sometimes wear out and that can cause the doors to droop.

It is verry common to see light through the top of the door due to the weather striping being crushed. Only new weather striping will solve that issue.

Also you might want to check the door striker..there is a plastic thingofmajig(technical term) what the door lock mechanism latches to..might be missing or cracked..I had to lift and slam when mine went..or maybe the striker itself moved..
