does any one know if the mustang 2 frame mounts bolt up the same place as the 4 cyl. mounts. also is hooker the only header for this swap ?
It depends on the year of the Pinto you have. The 74 and up cars do not require the mounts to be changed if you have the 2.3 in the car. The passenger side mount stays where it is and the drivers side mount gets moved back 1".
The Hooker headers are probably the best for the swap since they fit well. There was another manufacturer (cant remember who) but they ran all the tubes inside the frame and was quite the pain. There were steering shaft issues with those. Hooker still makes headers and they can be found used as well. If you look thru my picture gallery you will see my drag car. I have several engine pics showing the headers.
Shorty headers are a good way to go too!
thanks and what year and model do i ask for in a shorty header? also does the v8 motor sit in the center of the engine box? if so i may have my frame brackets backwards or mounts one. thanks again people.
A friend of mine used the Ford Explorer shorty headers and reversed them so the exhaust ports come to the front. That worked out well for him. I used the hooker headers for the MustangII. It took a bit of fabrication, but I'm happy with them.
I fabricated my own frame mounts along with the tranny mount for my AOD. My engine/tranny is off center by 3/4" to the passenger side.
