I know that every type of problem, fabrication, adjustment, problem solving in the world has been done on this forum. Old headers were fenderwell exit, these are not, but they are the correct headers for this car v8 swap. Problem is where the steering joins is against the header tube. Suggestions on how to connect the steering and clear the header?!?!?!?! MANY THANKS IN ADVANCE!

Replace the coupler with a u-joint or two?

I think those headers were designed for the early '71 style steering. I think I have the same set myself as a backup incase my shorty headers dont fit. If I use them & run into that issue I will cut the tube & weld in some bends to get around it. Its really easy to do & I have done it with entire exhaust systems I built from generic straight & mandrel bent tubing.
mark the approximate path of the shaft as it passes those tubes. move the shaft out of the way. heat the tube to a DULL red and lay in a 1" socket along the same path of the shaft. tap the socket with a hammer or force it into the tube carefully with a prybar & the result will be a neatly formed 'clearance' space for your steering shaft .
in the cheesy v8 pinto swap book on ebay it says that there is a flexable shaft coupler that came on early pintos that takes care of your problem
