I just realized I made my last post too complicated. Basically, here is the information that would help me most: What size tires do all of you have on your Pintos and which brand are they? I'd like to get tires close to the original height of the original tires so that they look right on the car. Any help you can provide will be greatly appreciated. Thanks! Jeff
It's the 4th of July weekend, so I'm sure most folks are out enjoying the festivities. When you get back home this week, I'd really appreciate it if some of you could just take a look at the tires on your Pintos and let me know the brand and size. I'm still having one heck of a time finding anything that will work for my Pinto, so I'd like to know what the rest of you are using. The really, really small size that my local tire company recommended makes the tires look like those compact spares! Every other place I've called has suggested the same small size Yikes! I just KNOW there have to be larger 13 in. tires out there somewhere that are similar to the original tires. So, I'd really appreciate your help with this. Take care -- and enjoy the rest of your holiday! Jeff
175/80/13 ensign republic i had a hard time getting these 4 yrs ago the black wall look bad but the white wall looked hundred times better
my speedo is off by a little though
Jeff,
I've got Gillette Silver Bears P165/80R13's white walls on my '71 . They are a darn near match for the old ones i took off 5 years ago. Good hunting...best of luck!

I want to thank everyone who responded to my question. I did some checking, and, unfortunately, Gillette doesn't make the Pinto size any more, Republic Ensign doesn't either, and the Solar size is the same as what I already bought (they are quite a bit smaller than original equipment). I also talked directly with; Coker Tires today, and they NO LONGER make a replacement tire for Pinto! So, I guess I'll just stick with the Cooper 185-70-13 tires, which are easy to get but are also really, really smaller than the original equipment on the Pintos. If anyone ever finds a source of good tires, please post it here on the Pinto site so the rest of us can find out about it. Thanks again for your help. Jeff
I can't help with stock tire sizes as I tossed the original 13's in the trash shortly after buying the car. I have 235/60r15's on the rear and 185/80r15's on the front. I guess "looks right" has a multitude of meanings ;D
I'd agree with "Slowride" regarding the "looks right." Frankly one thing that stood out about a Pinto from day one was the generous wheel well size that just begged for a taller, wider combination.
Attached are:
the Turbo Coupe 225-60-16" wheels/tire which I think are way too large (but all I had at the time).
the 225-60-15" wheels/tire that are still on the large size, but look better. Ideally I think I would go with 205-60-15"
That said I currently have 175-70-13" on Mustang II wheels. Might I add to look at all that extra space in the wheel well (rear especially). I'd like to go 205-60-13" with them and lower the car to fill in some of that space.
Have you tried the Tire Rack. I often get tires through them. UPS delivers them to the front door and you just go and get them mounted. The site gives tire dimensions etc.. Sumitumo seems to have a fair number of 13" tires through them at a good price. Frankly the Gillette and Ensign Republic tires you are mentioning sound like regional or off brand names. Unless you have a pristine, stock car and want to preserve originality I would go with a say... brand name, 185-70-13" radial at a minimum.
