Title: Need 2.0L cam belt tensioner
Post by: jdp530 on July 02, 2010, 09:18:54 PM
I am having trouble finding a tensioner. I have tried all of the local auto box stores. Any suggestions would be appreciated.

Oh, anyone recommend using an adjustable cam gear? Any particular brands?

Thanks,
JP

If you are looking for a new one, good luck. I don't think Esslinger or Racer Walsh are selling 2.0 parts anymore, however you may want to call to see if they have any leftovers. I always run an adjustable cam gear, even on a stock engine. I wrote a thread on the subject called "cam timing 101" I think it's in the projects section.
If you want a used part, check with Fred Morgan. If he can't help let me know, I may have one somewhere.  :)

Thanks for the help and the offers!
I do have a couple of used ones, but I would like to buy a new tensioner for the newly rebuilt engine. I did check the suppliers on this website and it looks like Pegasus is about the only place that has them but they are pricely like anything 'race' related.

Appears to be other suppliers across the pond but I cant think of anything else I need to order to make it worthwhile.

Pegasus is the answer for this problem. Yes it's $90 but its a brand new facory Ford part. I have not found an aftermarket source to still have stock. Northern Auto showed then for $50 then called to say it's long gone from any source they have access too. I'd suggest you grab it while you can.

Another state side source is British American Transfer.  They advertise the tensioner at $71 on the link below.  You have to down load the catalog, find their part number, then down load the price list.  I did not call to see if they truly have them.

Did a search on NAPA On-line and found it for $71.99.

Part #  NTP 95010
I need one too. I can remember when they were half that, but that was many moons ago.
Good luck!

NAPA does not have them, even nationally. I've already been down that road. For whatever reason they won't quit listing them but they don't, and I was told they won't ever have them. They have been marked Obsolete internally in their computer.
