Help! I'm a new member of the site and would appreciate some help. I just picked up a 1979 Pinto Runabout with 12,000 original miles. The turn signal bulbs check out good, but they won't flash. I'd like to check the flasher unit, but the Owner's Manual says it is located just to the right of the fuse box. Well, there is NOTHING to the right of the fuse box but empty air, and I can't find the flasher unit anywhere else so I can take it out and check it. On a 1979 model, where the heck is the flasher unit! Thanks for your help. Jefferoni

it is to the right of the fuse box, under the dash, you'll have to really "look" for it, can be hard to locate and remove. I have seen it as far over as the glove box on some but I "think" in a '79 it's closer to the fuse box. May have to remove the coin try under dash to get a good look. It's there, just gotta find it.
Good Luck and Happy 4th,
Brian
Thanks, Brian, for the information. I tried feeling around under the dash to the right of the fuse box, but I didn't feel anything that even remotely resembled what a flasher unit would be like. Part of the problem is that it is so darn hard to see up under the dash! I'm not tall, but I can hardly get under there to see anything! I'll take your advice and take off the coin tray to see if that gives me a better look. Anyone else out there have any advice about how to locate the flasher unit?
wish I would have driven the pinto to work (my '80) I could have taken a look.
I have the dash in my '80 bobcat torn apart but haven't started removing the flasher units and ect under the dash yet/don't recall exact location. I will look tonight, take some pics and post if you haven't solved it.
Cookieboystoys: I'd appreciate it very much if you could check tonight to see if you can find out where it is. I'd really appreciate that. By the way, just this afternoon I watched a bunch of videos on YouTube of Pintos, and I just realized these were your cars! Great collection -- and nice work on the restorations!
Thanks again! Jeff
Jeff.... I have over a hunderd videos posted on YouTube :o

That's ok I am here at Pinto World and it's to hot to work on anything. Fred :)
come on November
Fred and others: I can't thank you enough! I felt behind the fuse block, and sure enough, there is the flasher unit! However, it would take a circus monkey to get a hand behind there to get the thing loose because even a smallish hand like mine can't do it . It would be way easier if I could loosen up the fuse box and drop it down to work behind it. There is a phillips screw on the top left of the fuse box, and it is easily removed. However, the other screw, on the bottom right, is blocked by the lip on the steering column and can't be reached by a screwdriver. Obviously, I'm missing something simple here. How can the fuse box be dropped down easily? Any tips would be appreciated.
I did it with my medium sized hands before. You have to have good finger grip though. Rubber gloved may help your fingers grip to it.
I did not loosen the fuse block or remove anything.
Before messing with the flasher, pull the hazzard switch out and push in to make sure it is seated. This has caused issues on other cars.
So the front and rear lights come on solid on each side depending on lever position? If they do not come on at all, check the fuse, too.
