Title: brakes/ shocks
Post by: GoFordBroke on June 30, 2010, 02:17:25 PM
O.K., the collective brilliance here is blinding, so I'm all excited about getting your recomendations.  (No, really.)  What is the hot setup for shocks?  I have KYB's and they are awful.. choppy and jiggly (?) at low speeds and small bumps- not too bad at speed, but I don't do much of my Pinto driving at 85mph.  Of course, my springs are really, REALLY hard, too, but still...
Now, what about brakes?  I just rebuilt my stock brakes w/ new calipers, pads, hdwe, turned rotors, drums, new shoes, flex hoses, master cylinder, etc., and the results were underwhelming.  Is there a pad upgrade to the stock calipers?  I have ebc Redstuff pads on my Fairmont.. I bought a complete SN95 Mustang 12" disc/spindle/caliper to upgrade and the ebc pads on the stock parts (police mustang and drilled rotors)  were so damned good the 12" stuff is still on the shelf!  I haven't seen any ebc products for the stock calipers, though.  Any ideas?  Has anyone tried anything other than the Granada setup and GM calipers?  What about braided stainless flex hoses.. who makes 'em?
Rear discs from a 93 Mustang look like they will work, but I'll have to let you know about that later.  I have the parts, but...  thanks, y'all

Dont know anything about the ebc stuff, but you have to remember that the disks on these are only 9 inch in diameter. That is a big hurdle to overcome, which is why so many go to a bigger brake.

As far as the shocks, having stiff springs can make it feel like the old covered wagons. Don't know if any shocks can overcome that. It comes down to having to make compromises. I am sure someone here can give more help. maybe post your spring and shock specs.

manual or power brakes? i roll very heavy in my car allot and have never had any troubles with sock brakes and ceramic pads. u could have ur rotors drilled and put bigger rear drums
