Title: Difference in the 2.3 and 2.8?
Post by: powderblue76 on June 04, 2010, 05:36:14 PM
What is the real difference between the 2.3 and the 2.8, other than one is a 4 and the other a 6?
Is there a lot more power? Is the mileage that much different?
Was it worth the added expense at the factory?
Just asking, not ragging.
Thanks,
Mike

i think youll get mixed emotions with this.  ive owned 2 v6 pintos and they did the job...but that was it.  the aftermarket following is less than half that of the 2.3.  i guess it depends on what you want out of it.  i dont remember what my v6 wagon got for milage, but i dont think it was that good.  getting 200 ponies out of the v6 is tough, while the 2.3 has seen over 200 ponies stock in the late svos.  let alone comparing fuel mileage between a stock 205 hp svo to a modded 205 hp 2.8.  working on the 2.3 is much nicer also.

just my 2 pennys

Those are my impressions, mostly.
I think it was an idea that just didn't quite catch on, or wasn't well planned.
I think a factory 260/289/302 would have made a lot more sense, as the outside world was already doing it.

my first v6 wagon i did the 302/c4 swap to.  my current turbo 2.3 is way more fun.  ill never go back to a v8 pinto unless the car is an all out race car.  my current set up is all around better than that 302 car.  let alone the looks when you tell them its just a 2.3.

I have a buddy who is a full on turbo nut (300Z TT, about a kabillion HP) and he has been on me for YEARS to stick a turbo on my 2.3.
Just don't have the time or money to get around to it.
I agree a 2.3t would be the ticket, light and fast.
