Title: Getting Your Pinto's Birth Certificate!
Post by: beicholz on June 04, 2010, 09:14:09 AM
My Karmann Ghia colleagues get their car's "birth certificate" from Germany.   Now, look at the attached.   It looks like we might be able to get them for our Pintos.   They show date of manufacture, options, etc.

The attached shows a contact person at Ford who appears to be able to get the information.

I will try to research this, but if anyone else has time, feel free.   We just need to know:

1) If they still do this

2) If so, where do we send the requests and is there a charge (VW charges a small fee to pull the records

These forms are free of charge, they are called a "History 999 Report" by Ford, and available for Ford Lincoln or Mercury cars from 1967 - 1996. If you call 1-800-392-3673 and get through to someone that even knows what a History 999 Report is, you can have one mailed out to you, it takes a few weeks to get it though.

Here's the thread we had awhile back about these:

I did this for both of my cars. It was simple. Have the VIN ready when you call.

I have read about that within this topic. LOL. I will be greatfull if I receive it! If I dont, I can always try to find out some info here perhaps with the VIN number. I think I saw along the way somewheres where a couple of people had posted thier VIN numbers and gotten some info back. Thanks.

Well, I got my phone call today. They say what they do is break down the vin number to create a build sheet according to the numbers. So I assume I will pretty much find out the same thing as if someone tries to break down the numbers here. LOL. But at least it will be something, if I get it, to put with the car.

The Metuchen plant. Was that the old one in New Jersey that closed about ten years ago? Did they ever tear that plant down? Also, being as you say NY code, perhaps my lil pony has always resided here? I know I am supposedly the fourth ownerof it. Thanks.
