Title: tailgate seal
Post by: 78squirewagon on June 02, 2010, 06:17:48 PM
I am sure that this is a simple question but where can I buy a new tailgate/hatch seal for my wagon? After sitting and driving in a down pour tonight I found out that mine is leaking pretty good.

Thanks

Mark

Hey Mark
Two years ago i had the same problem with my '80 wagon. My solution was to get the DOOR SEAL rubber (it goes around the cab, door closes against it) for a 1999 or newer Ford Ranger PU. It has the correct profile, was less than $20 thru JC Whitney. Start at the bottom and go around to the bottom again, you will be about 4 inches too long. just trim it to fit. Make sure the seam is at the bottom, like factory. It was a perfect fit, no leaks since.

First generation FORD FOCUS 2 Door door seals. The are a perfect fit. They also fir '77 and newer runabouts. Those are what I have used on all of my cars.

THANKS!!  I will check them both out and go from there. The car does not come out in the rain that much but the last couple of weeks I have gambled with Mother nature and lost. Oh well, at least I know where the leaks are now. :)

Hey Pintopower:

By chance do you have a JC Whitney catalog number or some
other catalog number we can use to get the FORD FOCUS 2
Door door seals as a replacement for the tailgate seal.

Thanks,

Will this work as a replacement for now? Also would anyone trust them for door seals ?

Also, would anyone use these to replace the window channels. Mine are getting worn out and I need to replace them on all three cars.
