Well were home, but a have a new list of stuff to fix!
1/2 tankof gas to go 75 miles Some thing ant right?
Changed the exhaust donut on lunch, broke the solenoid, changed it. When got off the solenoid hung up starter would not disengage. Alt, light was on most of way home. battery is just about dead only could see a few feet buy the time I got home. And the turn singles don't flash any more.
I hope it's fixable and not too hard on the wallet. I'm glad you got home safely. :D
When changing the alternator, also change the voltage regulator. My 78 has a thing about taking the regulator out with it as if it refuses to go out alone!
Back when I first started driving the car I had a similar issue. I changed my regulator, alternator, battery and solenoid and haven't had a problem since.
Sounds like a few related issues...
Not sure how your choke works, but mine depends on direct alternator power to operate. I think the old water heated chokes still used an electric heater also.
Dim lights and no TS flash caused by drained battery. TS flasher relies on proper current flow to actually make them blink.
Two years ago my 78's ALT brushes wore out after 150K miles and the choke almost closed. Fouled the plugs and ran like crap. Alt light did not work due to broken cluster. After about 100 miles, I finally noted the ammeter on discharge.
I replaced the ALT brushes in about an hour for a whole $4 - Autozone had them!
I had to change the spark plugs, too - they got the "krusty brand seal of approval"... :rolleye:
my choke is ele don't have it hooked yet did think I need since its summer. I know most of the problems are the alt
I don't like the pinto as much as i thought i would So i think Im going to sell it or just give it back to my buddy if he will take it.(still owe him money)
