Bare with me, I'm not much of a mechanic ... in fact, not at all. However, my wife saw (and wanted) a 73 Pinto. Of course, how could I say no. Someone told me that there was a "fix" or maybe a kit that can be installed behind the gas tank that will prevent a rear end explosion. If there is such a thing, where can I find this or is there some other fix ? Thanks !!
I've seen the recall plate on ebay a couple times, so check there. You can click the Pinto on ebay link in the upper right hand corner of the website & it'll take you to all auctions dealing with the Pinto.
All it is, is a metal shield that is formed in front of the gas tank to keep the rear differential housing bolts from puncturing the gas tank in case of an accident. You might be able to rig up something by forming some sheet metal in the shape of the tank & somehow bolt it in place in front of the gas tank.
Good Luck, & welcome aboard!!
Mine is a thick piece of plastic.
I bought a plastic shield on Ebay, it doesn't fit my 76 wagon, if you would be interested on purchasing it let me know. 25.00 plus shipping.
It makes a great fuel pump hanger when you switch to EFI. :)
