Title: 73 Wagon and V8 a good idea?
Post by: 72Wagon on May 14, 2010, 07:12:28 PM
I found a good 73 wagon and have a good low mielage (on rebuild) 74 302. My ? is, is a 1973 wagon a good canidate for the transplant?
I have a 72 Wagon, with a built 2.0 now that I don't want the V8 in. I do know that the 73 has a unique one year rack and pinion that I will have to deal with, are there any other concerns with this year model?
Thanks
Kevin

yea, the '71-'73 engine bay is smaller so you have to modify the firewall. plus there are no motor mounts available for the swap due to the smaller frame rails. I did a detailed swap thread when I did mine in the project section called "71 v8 swap-let the fun begin" that you may want to read, it's doable, just some extra fab work involved.  :)
