How can I tell a C4 from a C3 transmission?
Thanks
Windwoman
To tell them apart the easiest way is to look at the pan.
C3 pan looks like this and has 13 bolts

C4 pan looks like this with 11 bolts

Wow, that is a great photo of the differences! I kinda was wondering the same thing. Thanks for sharing that, I will now be able to easily tell the difference!!
I though I was right now I know I was... wow
I am learning a whole new language playing with this pinto.
Now to find a real C4 for my baby
If anyone has knowlege of one that will work with a 2.3 turbo let me know.
Thanks
WW
Any c4 will work its just finding a c4 2.3 bell housing that isnt so fun.
Could a C3 bell be lathed or machined to work on a C4?
BTW, how do you tell an A4LD apart from the C3 and C4?
a4ld are 3 speeds with o/d and usually have 18 bolts in the pan and really dont look like a c3 or c4.
