I asked a question before about using a cross member on a Ford Pinto because it was originally a four speed and I'm going to an automatic. I was asked to supply more information, which is below.Â
Hi all this is what I have and have done so far:
dissemble a 1979 Pinto, I have rebuilt the front end,new bearing 5 bolt rotars,2 new calipers,
new pads, new bearings, 350 lb chrome coil springs for a mustang II and new chrome shocks. The control arms have been power coated black. On the rear end I have a nine inch out of an 57 Ford and also an 8 inch out of an 76 musting II V-8 car, I'm not sure which I'll use yet. The 302 will be stock for now. The transmission is a C-4 out of a 76 musting II have the very same bellhousing torque converter flexplate etc. For the engine I do have mustang II fram mount and engine mounts. Also have exhaust manifold from an fairlane exit straight out the back. Oilpan and pickup is from an mustang II 78. All the wire in the engine bay is hid. THe radiator is from a V-6 Pinto with air, rebuilt with a row added. I have a 15 gallon aluminum fuel cell and sealed battery box polished from Jeg's. Â
This is what I have done or bought for the car so far. To me a hot rod is taking a stock car and rebuilding in better and modifying it to your liking. I am about ready to test fit it together. It had a four speed s that is why I was asking about the mount for the C-4 transmission.
Also, I have a four point roll bar and I know down the road I'll need subframe connectors.
So, since I'm switching from a four speed to an automatic, do I need a new cross member? Are they shaped the same for a four speed and an automatic?
 Â
Thanks for any help available.
Transmission x-member is the same for all Pintos 77/up automatic and manual.
