Title: Need Replacement Dash
Post by: beicholz on April 29, 2010, 08:40:56 PM
My '76 has a cracked dash.   I looked around the site, and don't see a thread on dash boards.

Questions:
1) Has anyone found an actual replacement dash and not just a cover?
2) For those who used dash covers, any recommendations on the best one available for a '76?

Doing a search on "dash cap" or "dash pad" will reveal a lengthy history of threads. A "rundown" on dah caps in general:

1) No repro caps exist
2) Dash pads CAN be reconditioned to original spec at a few select vendors, but cost upwards of $600
3) Dash pads can be RECOVERED with vinyl, a few folks here have done it
4) Dash pads can be covered with plastic molded caps that "snap on" to them.
5) Dash pads CAN be restored with specialized materials from companies like Urethane Supply. I did one, it turned out pretty good, but it took me about 25 hours.

Yes, I found an NOS unit some months back, it cost me $200. Any that you do find usually run this amount or more, unfortunately.
