Title: 3.8 v6 swap
Post by: pbwagon on January 28, 2005, 03:42:06 AM
I am some what of a 3.8 v6 junkie. I have a 98 mustang that runs 12's with the 6er in it and was wanting to put the same type of set up in my 80 wagon. The only thing that I am not sure about is motor mounts. Which ones can I use? Any help would be great. Anyone running a 3.8 in their pinto?

Hello! I had seriously considered putting a 3.8 in my '79 because a V8 bellhousing could be used and a T-5 mated to it. I dropped the idea when I realized what the smog ramifications were going ot be here in California. The mounts from the mid-eighties Mustangs looked like it would be relatively easy to fabricate brackets to match up to the Pinto frame and support the mounts. The trans mount for the Mustang also looked like it would work with some minor alterations to the Pinto crossmember. Good luck with your swap! Let me know how it works out.

And the bummer is the Terminator just terminated the progressive year smog thing and froze it at 75 and older. Now you'll have to smog that thing for the rest of it's life. Remember though, it's the year of the car or engine depending on whats newer that determines the smog rules. Install a late model 3.8 and keep the injection and your legal.  :)

Hey thanks for the info guys. Emissions really isn't a problem for me, in Colorado once you put collector plates on a car you don't have to have emissions on the car any more. I'm hoping to pull some good times out of the car, my 98 sixer like I said runs high 12's with a built 3.8 and nitrous and it weighs around 3200lbs. I'm hoping I can pull a little faster times out of the Pinto.
