Some one help me please!!!!. I have an early 70's 2000cc in a sand rail. My problem is any time i go over 7000RPM the valves go out of adjustment. I pull the cover and readjust them and everything is good, untill i get throttle happy again. If it matters its a 2000cc, with an offy intake, holly 4bbl, equal length header, and an msd ignition.
If your running an after market cam, you may need the longer adjustment studs, as you may be too close to the end of the adjustment range of the stock stud. Esslinger and Racer Walsh both have them.
Ok I gotta fess up, I know nothing about these motors. I assume if its a stock cam it would say ford on it somewhere? I can get it adjusted right and cruise around all day at 5 or 6000RPM, but at 7 or so it loses it.
7000 is pushing the limit on a stock cam, with the other upgrades you have I bet it has an aftrmarket cam as well. A stock cam has a tiny little oval with the Ford script stamped into the cam between the 6th & 7th lobes. Aftermarket should have some #s on the very back of the journal. When I ran my nitrous'd 2.0, I would launch at 7K and shift at 8800 and never had any problems. The valvetrain is fairly complex though, even though it looks simple. It needs to be set up right!!
If the cam is not stock, also check the condition of the Cam Bearings. These motors have a common issue with the Center bearing, if there is any excess wear, you can't get the adjustment to hold. The oscillation or harmonics at that RPM ( 7K) will be significant and loosen all kinds of things...
