Title: Wiper motor issue?
Post by: TIGGER on January 27, 2005, 10:48:45 PM
What causes the wiper motor not to return to what I call the "park" position when your turn off the switch?  The wiper motor in my 73 seems to work just fine.  The problem is when you turn them off it stops right where it is and does not return to park.  Any idea what causes this?  Is the motor bad?  Can I swap a motor from a 78 in or do I have to find another 73 unit?  I also have a wiper delay setup that came with the 78 wiper motor.  Assuming the original motor is good, will the wiper delay setup work with the 73 wiper motor or do I need to change the motor to a later unit?  I assume it will work but I am not 100% sure.  Any help would be appreciated.

I know on some vehicles it does do this when a wiper delay motor is on a car without wiper delay, but I  the motors on the cars are the same here. You Might have a loose wire, or the motor itself might be going bad. I'd swap the motor that you know is good. There id no difference in a 73 motor to a 78 motor.

I'd look for a loose wire first though, as these things arent easy to change a motor on, or so I've heard.

All Pinto and Mustang II use the same wiper motor. The parts that park the wipers are in the motor. Change the motor will be the best fix for not parking in the right place. You can change to intermittent wipers by changing the switch and adding a governor. Some Pintos had intermittent wipers from 76 and newer. The governor plugs in-line between the switch and the wiring loom, easy conversion if you can find both parts. Hope this helps. I have been selling Ford parts at Ford Dealers for about 35 years.

Thanks, I wanted to make sure the motor would solve my problem before I went thru the trouble of replacing it.
