As a lot of you know I bought a door from Fred Morgan this weekend and a crack(ed) team of expert door installers swapped driver's side doors on Ruby (Fred, Bob, Kimmy, pat yourselves on the back!). On closer inspection 24 little hours later I noticed the door doesn't quite match the body (see picture). Is there any way I can adjust the door so the "lines" flow without being disjointed?
Question #2: I want to swap the outer door handle but I can't disengage the door release button (on original Ruby door) and NONE of my manuals can help me. Can someone here help me? Thank you.
looks like the door needs loosened and moved up about 1/4- 1/2 inch prolly gunna need a helper to do it to hold the door up while the other tigtens the bolts since your not me and cant do it by yourself =P LOL
Also what do you mean you cant disengage the door release button? you cant get it to pop back out? if thats the case then the rod thats hooked to it is jammed or the release mechanism that actually latches the door shut is jammed or corroded.
I can't separate the button from the rod that's attached. It's hard to see how they're connected so I don't know quite what to do so I can take the handle all the way off. Naturally I removed the nuts.
Tim, feel free to come over here! ;D
Disconnect the latch actuating rod from the handle link connector .2 .unsrcew and remove the 2 fixing nuts from from the handle studs and withdraw the handle ..3 use new sealing pads between the handle and the body metal
Hey Becky! Looks like you had a good time at Knotts! ;D Can't believe you got that old door in your car!! :hypno:
Now on to the door linkage rod; on one end there should be a plastic clip/bushing that is snapped over the rod. You just push it off of the rod and slide the rod out. It may be down at the latch end. On the other end, the rod is going to have a bend in it like a "Z" that goes through a plastic bushing.
Ok thank you Jim. Because I had limited light and space I couldn't see where the clip is. Should I replace the nuts then so the handle is stationary?
yes
OK thank you. :)
