Title: Please Help! Can't Find Tires
Post by: beicholz on April 26, 2010, 01:32:41 PM
My Pinto has 13" wheels.   Believe it or not, it has the original tires, which still have tread on them.  Even so, my mechanic says they are not safe because the rubber is dry.

Problem is, I'm having trouble finding a decent-looking replacement.   The tires say, BR 7013, Remington, XT-120 Radial.

Any ideas out there on sources or alternatives?   (Picture attached.)

Thank you!

you can buy at discount tire the 185 70 R13 tires for 29.99 a tire for the cheap ones. they are running specials you can get a set of 4 for about 250 installed. talk to your local discount tire and see what they say to you. I have a pair on my car and they are nice.
think they have a 25k or 30k warranty on them

I think he wants the old-school whitewalls like in the '70s.

I put new whitewalls on my Cruising Wagon and my hatchback at the local Grismer Tire here in Troy, Ohio. They had to order them in from their warehouse but they had them the next day and they look fine.

you want white walls or white lettered tires? cause if you just want white letters just about any brand of tire has those but if your looking for white walls be ready to spend a nice chunk of change anywhere from 130-200 a tire they aint cheap and most places will tell you they cant even order white walls.

I wanted raised white lettering.   But no one seems to have them in 13".  They say this size was discontinued years ago.   I did find some Firstone whitewalls for roughly $55 each, but they don't look like the old tires.   I even tried Coker....no luck there.

Thanks, everyone.   Just got home from Firestone.   They had some whitewalls that look just like the ones in the 1976 brochure I found on EBAY.

Really? That's outstanding news!! I have a set of Rally wheels I restored, and raised whites would be THE BOMB on them. Thanks!

To close this one out, I went with the Firestones.   They had some radials that matched the 70's Pinto ads, though I don't like them as much as the original raised-letter ones.   The car now runs very smooth up to 70mph.   Haven't had the courage to go above that yet.

The comments continue about this car.   Can't think of a trip...even a short one...when someone hasn't given me the thumbs up or stopped me to tell me their "Pinto Story"!
