I know that T5 trannys are used with 5.0L motors in pintos, but is there any way to put in a 5 speed with a orignal 2.3L engine. i have a 1980 with a 4 speed but im craving overdrive. thanks
Look at http://www.joe-escobar.com/pinto.html (http://www.joe-escobar.com/pinto.html)
There are at least 5 threads in the FAQ section that have titles that seem to say that they deal with the T-5 swap.
At the top of this screen, click on "Forum" (should be highlighted). Scroll down until you see "Pinto FAQ", then click on it. Lots of good info there.

Been looking at Rangers lately, see a lot that have the 2.3L with a 5 speed.

I getting ready to cut floor were 94 Rangar with 2.3 + 5spd shifter will go. Fred :)
Wow, that is going to be a long reach for the shifter!!! You going to add an extension to it, Fred?
Also look for Fox body Mustangs 87-93 with 2.3 . have T5's.
thanks ya'll
Id look for either a mustang t5 or a turbocoupe worldclass t5 with a first gear ratio of 3:97 they will be your best bet.
The rangers didnt use a t5 they used a M50D which had a first gear ratio of 3.72.
