Title: 78 Pinto has new home
Post by: nupintowner on January 25, 2005, 05:15:04 PM
First let me say Hi to everyone.
Great site, keep up the good work.

Just by a fluke, I now own a 1978 Pinto 3dr hatchback. 87,000mi ps,pb,ac,rm,ect,ect.
bought it from the orignal owner. Who bought it in Cal. towed behind a motorhome to N.C. It hasn't been over 25 mi from home in 20 years. It is a daily driver and runs pretty good at 75mph. It wasn't garage kept, isn't showroom new looking and has the usual weather stiping leaks. For the price I just couldn't pass it up. The new tires, wheels and wire spoke hubcaps are worth what I paid for it.

Now, do I keep it or do I fix the leaks and sell it?  Any suggestions?

If the body and substructure are in good shape, any Pinto should be held in high esteem by anty one who happens upon it. Nothing, I repeat nothing, mechanical cannot be overcome with a little knowledge and the help of the fine members of FordPinto.com. If the body is realatively good, as well as the floor pans, you are starting with a car that any Pinto fan would be proud to own. If these things are solid, let the vast knowledge of the current Pinto community help in making any other part of the car as good as it can be.

Everything seems to be in good shape. It was a daily driver for a 75 yr old man. He used it to go to the P.O., dump, and local errands. He took it to the local ford dealership for all service work including oil changes every 3000 mi. It has a couple of bondo patches (small ones) one around the right taillight the other in front of the driver side rear wheel. It has been repainted (backyard style) but doesn't look bad from a distance. It got it's first dent two weeks ago behind the rear wheel drivers side. Someone backed into it. Easy fix. It has a crack in the dash and one broken window handle. I bought it sight unseen. Picked it up today and drove it home. It purrs like a kitten at 75. :o For now I plan on cleaning it up a bit, replacing the weather striping, dash pad and window handle. Maybe new carpet throughout.  Maybe in a month or so it will be for sale.  ???
Will try to get a few pics to post in the next few days.
