Title: Might have to sell the pinto.
Post by: Oddzball on April 16, 2010, 01:50:49 PM
Well, I dont know if I am going to get around to getting the pinto done and am considering selling it. It is complete but the motor is sitting on the engine stand completely rebuilt.

My question is what can I get for it?

Motor was completely rebuilt, new cam and crank, pistons, bored 30 over. Heads were completely redone, still has all the AC parts and they worked when it was taken apart for rebuild.

NOS carb, looks brand new, still have old carb as well.

Body is pretty much perfect condition, no rust, paint is almost perfect, few chips here and there. It is hunter green with the green and yellow interior.

Interior is almost perfect, dash was redone only real problem is a few split seams on the seat and a split on the seam in the headliner towards the back. Carpet is nice and everything is real clean, just been sitting for 8 months.

Everything is stock except the motor being bored 30 over when i rebuilt it.

I know i wont get what i put into it back out, but what can i get for it?

Oddz, I'm sorry you're thinking about selling her. She's a real beauty, and you've put so much work into her already...I hope you decide to stick with it... :D

Don't know about price, but you will get much more for it if you get it running. Think of it as working now to get paid later.

My heart goes out to you for deciding to sell. It was a tough decision I made last summer to try to sell mine, but with a down market and all, I wasn't able to get $1200 (I started at $2000). My car runs and goes freeway speed!

I wish you luck friend!

For some reference points, having monitored EBAY myself recently, and just purchased:

At the high end, a showroom new Pinto Squire (possibly the most desired body style), '77 2.3l with 35K miles...without a single defect, no rust, no dents, perfect vinyl, CA car...just went for $12,100 on EBAY.  I just bought a '76 CA Runabout, no rust, 40K miles, near perfect interior, loaded, for $2.1k on EBAY.   I think I got lucky, and have already had some higher offers, but not THAT much higher.

So...I agree with the previous post.   I haven't seen your car, but no one is going to pay much for an unassembled Pinto.  Get it working if you can, and depending on condition, you might get $1.5K on up.

That's my experience, anyway.
